A contact lens characterized by comprising a hydrate of a copolymer obtained from at least three ingredients comprising (I) a silicone oligomer ingredient polymerizable at both terminals that has a viscosity of 200 mPa·s or higher at room temperature, (II) a hydrophilic monomer ingredient having an ethylenically unsaturated group, and (III) a monomer ingredient that itself is hydrophobic and has a molecular weight of 700 or lower. The contact lens is further characterized in that the modulus ratio defined by the ratio of the modulus of rupture to the initial modulus is in the range of 0.8-1.2. This lens is still further characterized by combining high oxygen permeability with a balance between flexibility and mechanical properties in addition to transparency. The lens is produced by stirring a starting-material liquid comprising at least the three ingredients, i.e., ingredients (I), (II), and (III), at a stirring power per unit volume of 5-10,000 W/m3 for 10 minutes or longer, thereafter casting the starting-material liquid into a lens mold, polymerizing the ingredients, and then hydrating the resultant polymer. |
