The invention discloses a plasma ionization chamber (1) for the bipolar, partial ionization of gaseous oxygen, said chamber comprising - an inflow opening (6) for oxygen and an outflow opening (7) for ionized oxygen, - a cathode (4) and an anode (3) arranged in the interior of the plasma ionization chamber, these two electrodes being in the form of electrode wires which are tensioned transversely to the direction of flow (5) of the oxygen and are arranged in succession in the direction of flow of the oxygen, - wherein the inflow opening (6) is arranged in alignment with the outflow opening (7) centrally in the plasma ionization chamber (1). In order to reduce the formation of ozone in the plasma ionization chamber (1), it is provided that the DC voltage supply (2) for the anode (3) and the cathode (4) is configured in such a way that the current intensity in the anode (3) and in the cathode (4) does not exceed the region of 10 mA, in particular of 8 mA, and the voltage between the anode (3) and the cathode (4) is less than or equal to 6 kV, and - that the electrodes (3, 4) are in the form of wires, the mutual spacing (8) of which is smaller in the centre of the plasma ionization chamber (1) than at the edge of the plasma ionization chamber. |
