Compositions are provided that include date palm pollen or an extract thereof. The compositions may be formulated use in methods of treatment or prophylaxis of inflammatory conditions such as adverse side effects of anti-cancer treatment or stomatitis conditions.

A method for treating, preventing, or ameliorating at least one adverse side effect of chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer in an individual in need thereof, said method comprising administering a composition comprising a unit dose of pollen from a palm species of the genus Phoenix or an extract thereof to the individual.
