A cell string (ST1) provided in a battery module (MD1) shows a large allowable current value, and cell strings (ST2, ST3a) respectively provided in battery modules (MD2, MD3a) show small allowable current values. Further, in the battery module (MD2), a current limiting circuit (14) that limits charged/discharged current of the cell string (ST2) is provided. When a current value that is sensed by a current sensor (20) is 0, a switch (SW1) is turned off. In this state, if a terminal voltage value of the cell string (ST3a) is different from a terminal voltage value of the cell string (ST2), a switch (SW2a) switches connections of the battery modules (MD2, MD3a) so as to cause the current limiting circuit (14) to intervene between the cell strings (ST2, ST3a).
