PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide human protein tyrosine phosphatase inhibitors and to provide methods of use.SOLUTION: The present disclosure relates to compounds effective as human protein tyrosine phosphatase beta (HPTP-&bgr;) inhibitors, thereby regulating angiogenesis. The present disclosure further relates to compositions comprising the human protein tyrosine phosphatase beta (HPTP-&bgr;) inhibitors, and to methods for regulating angiogenesis. Disorders treated by the compounds of this invention includes diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, cancer, sickle cell anemia, sarcoid, syphilis, pseudoxanthoma elasticum, Paget's disease, vein occlusion, artery occlusion, carotid obstructive disease, chronic uveitis/vitritis, mycobacterial infections, and the like.
