A method for controlling a display screen in a mobile terminal comprises the following steps: acquiring a first image using a cut-off filter for cutting-off any one signal among a red (R) signal, a green (G) signal, or a blue (B) signal in a camera attached in the front of a mobile terminal, and a second image different from the first image; recognizing a target subject including any one from a face or a gesture of a user, based on the first image and the second image; and controlling on/off status of a display screen of the mobile terminal, according to the recognition result.
