The purpose of the present invention is to provide a retaining seal material having a sufficient retaining force even in a low temperature region at a temperature equal to or below 600°C. A retaining seal material of the present invention is formed of an inorganic fiber having an organic binder added thereto, said retaining seal material not containing an expanding material. The retaining seal material is characterized in that the organic binder has a tensile strength 4-80 % lower than that of the organic binder having been heat treated at 105°C, said tensile strength having been measured by means of a method conforming to JIS-K 6251. |
