摘要 <p>A hybrid electricity storage, power generation system 70 comprises (i) a pumped heat electricity storage (PHES) system comprising a compressor(113), first TES (140) (thermal energy store), second power machinery (115/116), and second TES (160) disposed in an air working fluid circuit operable in: a charging mode using an open or closed heat pump cycle to heat the first TES (140) and cool the second TES (160), the first compressor (113) and the second power machinery (115) respectively compressing and expanding the air before entry to the first and second TES; and, a discharging mode using an open heat engine cycle to cool the first TES (140) and heat the second TES (160), the first compressor being inactive and the second power machinery (116) compressing air from the second TES before entry to the first TES, whereby heated, pressurised air is produced from the first TES system; and, (ii)a combustion turbine sub-system comprising a combustor (213) and downstream high temperature turbine (214) integrated with the circuit by flow connectors(123); wherein the hybrid system is operable in: (a) a discharge generation mode where the PHES system is discharging, and the flow connectors (123) direct the heated, pressurised air from the first TES (140) to the combustor (213) and turbine (214) to produce electrical power; and, (b)a normal generation mode in which the flow connectors direct heated, pressurised air from the first compressor to the combustor (213) and turbine (214) to produce electrical power. The hybrid system is location independent and time shifts and reduces the work of compression prior to combustion. During charging, a pre-heater system (144/145/146) may preheat air to increase energy density. During discharging, the exhaust outlet (252) may be operatively linked to a bottoming cycle or other heat recovery process.</p>
