BLADE DEPLOYMENT MECHANISMS FOR SURGICAL FORCEPS A forceps (100) includes first and second shafts (101a, 101b), each having a jaw member (110, 120) disposed at a distal end (104a, 104b) thereof At least one jaw member (110, 120) is moveable from an open to a closed position for grasping tissue (500) therebetween. At least one jaw member (110, 120) is configured for reciprocation of a blade (175) therethrough. A trigger assembly (180) includes a trigger (160) and at least one linkage (182, 184) coupled to the trigger (160) and to the blade (175) such that rotation of the trigger (160) translates the blade (175) between the retracted and the extended position. An interference member (186) moveable between a locked position and an unlocked position is also provided. The interference member (186) is configured to engage the linkage(s) (182, 184) when in the locked position to inhibit translation of the blade (175) from the retracted to the extended position.
|
