摘要 An apparatus for analyzing and identifying sensed particulate matter may include, in one embodiment, a collection area attached to a portable electronic communication device. The collection area receives particulate matter from the external environment. A positioning element positions the particulate matter within the collection area to optimize placement of the particulate matter for optical inspection. An identification element illuminates and inspects the particulate matter to harvest data therefrom. The data includes, for example, optical characteristics of the particulate matter in a micrometer range. Finally, a software element compares the data to a library of stored data associated with various sources of particulate matter. The origin of the particulate matter under test is identified based on the comparison.
