摘要 A multi-mode communication system and a method thereof are provided to minimize power consumption generated according as a multi-mode terminal accesses a multi wireless access apparatus by installing a multi-mode controller for managing the multi-mode and by collectively managing various activation states in accordance with access modes of the multi-mode terminal. A multi-mode communication system comprises a multi-mode terminal(100), wireless access systems(210,220,230), MCEs(Mobile Control Entity, 310,320,330), and a multi mode controller(400). The multi-mode terminal(100) performs the first, second and third communication according to three different communication protocols, and changes communication modes according to a paging request from the mobile controller(400). The wireless access systems(210,220,230) are controlled by the connected MCEs(310,320,330), respectively, have specific communication frequencies, and perform wireless communication with the multi-mode terminal(100) according to a communication mode selection of the multi-mode terminal(100). The MCEs(310,320,330), connected with the wireless access systems(210,220,230), manage mobility, user authentication, and access control of the connected multi-mode terminal(100). The multi-mode controller(400), connected to the MCEs(310,320,330), receives state information of the multi-mode terminal(100) from the MCEs(310,320,330), generates a paging message according to a broadcasting message or a paging request from other network and a paging request from the MCEs(310,320,330), and transmits the paging message to the multi-mode terminal(100) on the basis of a table in which state information of the multi-mode terminal is stored.
