A head gap adjusting device and an inkjet image forming apparatus with the same are provided to properly adjust a head gap according to the thickness of a sheet to prevent inferior printing and obtain excellent printing quality regardless of the thickness of the sheet. A head gap adjusting device includes a platen(135) having a sheet supporting protrusion(140) to support a sheet(P) and a gap maintaining protrusion(142) formed to avoid a feeding path of the sheet, a moving device to make the sheet supporting protrusion and the gap maintaining protrusion approach to or be spaced apart from a print head, and a controller(165) to control the moving device. The head gap is adjusted as the sheet supporting protrusion approaches to the print head or is separated therefrom, and the minimal predetermined value of the head gap is maintained by the gap maintaining protrusion approaching to contact the print head. The platen includes a plate member(136) having the sheet supporting protrusion and the gap maintaining protrusion protruded from a surface opposite to the print head. The moving device includes a cam rotated while contacting the plate member.
