An apparatus and a method for mapping a color gamut of a camera image in real time are provided to improve color reproducibility in real time by measuring and analyzing a color gamut of a color image off-line and downloading 3D conversion data obtained in consideration of the characteristic of the color gamut to a 3D lookup table. An apparatus for converting a color gamut of a camera color image includes a 3D lookup table, and a color interpolator. The 3D lookup table stores 3D mapping data corresponding to upper n bits of the camera color image. The color interpolator performs 3D interpolation using 3D color data corresponding to lower m bits of the color image and 3D conversion data output from the 3D lookup table. The 3D lookup table stores conversion values corresponding to input R, G and B values and includes eight 1D lookup tables, an address decoder, and a data switch.
