Provided is a polytetrafluoroethylene aqueous dispersion having excellent dispersion stability and containing extremely small polytetrafluoroethylene particles having a high molecular mass. The polytetrafluoroethylene aqueous dispersion, which contains polytetrafluoroethylene particles comprising a tetrafluoroethylene unit or a tetrafluoroethylene unit and a modifying monomer unit based on a modifying monomer that can form a copolymer with the tetrafluoroethylene, is characterized by the polytetrafluoroethylene particles having a volume average particle diameter of at least 0.1nm and less than 20nm, a melt flow rate of at least 0g/10mins and less than 80g/10mins as measured at 380℃ and at a load of 5kg, a melting point of 324-360℃, and a thermal decomposition initiation temperature of at least 400℃. |
