PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a liquid crystal layer to the optimum thickness for each color layer by forming a coating film to a desired thickness for each color layer according to the difference in hydrophilicity between the color layer and the coating film, and then hardening the coating film to form a protective layer. SOLUTION: A color layer 4 is formed on a substrate 2 having a black matrix 3 (light-shielding layer), and a coating film 5 is formed by using a coating liquid for a protective layer to cover the color layer 4. After the solvent in the coating film 5 is removed to give dimensional stability in a certain degree, the substrate is heated to such a temp. that the coating film 5 flows due to the difference in the surface tension effecting the coating film 5 by the relation of hydrophilicity of the each color pattern 4R, 4G, 4B of the color layer 4 and the hydrophilicity of the coating film 5. Therefore, the coating film 5 has each specified thickness for the respective pattern 4R, 4G, 4B of the color layer 4. Then the coating film 5 is cooled and hardened by exposure, development or the like through a photomask to form a protective layer 6 in the pattern region of the color layer 4 and its surrounding area. Further, a transparent conductive film 7 is formed on the protective layer 6. |
