Provided is a quenching apparatus which can achieve improved quenching performance. A circulation device (50) in the quenching apparatus collects a cooling solution that has been used for quenching, and supplies the collected cooling solution to a defoaming tank (431). A laminar flow weir (433) in a defoaming device (4) partitions the defoaming tank (431) into a laminar flow tank (434) and a shallow flow tank (435), and is located at a level below the side wall of the laminar flow tank (434). The cooling solution is supplied from the circulation device (50) into the laminar flow tank (434), and the cooling solution is poured into the shallow flow tank (435) from the laminar flow tank (434) through the laminar flow weir (433). A filter (432) has a plate-like or sheet-like form, has a network structure, and covers an opening located at the bottom of the shallow flow tank (435). The liquid level in the shallow flow tank (435) is below the height of the laminar flow weir (433). A supply tank (441) stores the cooling solution that has passed through the filter (432), and supplies the cooling solution to a cooling device that ejects the cooling solution onto a metallic material. |
