Provided is a process for producing a polycarbonate, the process including: a stationary separation step (1) in which a reaction product obtained in an oligomerization step is separated in a stationary separation tank into an aqueous phase and an organic phase containing a polycarbonate oligomer, and the aqueous phase and the organic phase containing a polycarbonate oligomer are withdrawn from the stationary separation tank; subjecting the withdrawn organic phase to polycondensation to obtain a polycarbonate-containing reaction product; and a separation step (2) in which the reaction product is separated into a polycarbonate-containing organic phase and an aqueous phase. In the process, the amounts of an alkali, an alkali metal carbonate, and a dihydric phenol to be introduced per unit time into the reactor in the oligomerization step, which are expressed by A mol/hr, B mol/hr, and X mol/hr, respectively, are regulated so as to satisfy [(A+B)/2+X]/Y≤0.25 where Y is the amount (mol/hr) of chloroformate groups contained in the polycarbonate oligomer-containing organic phase withdrawn per unit time in the stationary separation step (1). |
