Provided is a fine nickel oxide micropowder that is ideal as a material for electronic parts in that the sulfur content is controlled and the chlorine content is reduced. Also provided is a method for the industrially stable production of the same. An aqueous nickel sulfate solution is neutralized using an alkali, the resulting nickel hydroxide is heat treated in a non-reducing atmosphere at a temperature that exceeds 850ºC but is lower than 1,050ºC to form nickel oxide particles, and the sintered compact of the nickel oxide particles formed during this heat treatment is crushed, preferably by causing the particles to impact one another. The resulting nickel oxide micropowder has a sulfur content of 400 ppm by mass or less, a chlorine content of 50 ppm by mass or less, a sodium content of 100 ppm by mass or less, and a specific surface area that is 3 m
|
