<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a microbial fuel cell which does not need the work such as recovery and transport of sludge. <P>SOLUTION: A microbial fuel cell 100 includes: a battery body 111 having an insulative holding body 121 and a negative electrode 122 and a positive electrode 123 which are respectively provided at a lower part and an upper part of the holding body 121; a mad layer 113 including an organic material and an anaerobic microorganism; and a water layer 114 existing above the mad layer 113.
