An agent of a communication network receives a periodically transmitted specific keep alive message from a managing system and forwards event reports, and comprises as its operation modes an event forwarding mode and an event logging mode. In the event forwarding mode, the agent forwards the event reports to the managing system, and in the event logging mode, the agent stores the event reports in a persistent memory means. The operation mode of the agent is switched from the event forwarding mode to the event logging mode when the agent does not receive the specific keep alive message within a predefined time period, and the operation mode of the agent is switched from the event logging mode to the event forwarding mode when the agent receives the specific keep alive message. |
