The present invention relates to an external cavity type laser having a curved optical waveguide. The light emitted from a laser diode chip, which is formed by forming a non-reflective coat on a surface of a semiconductor laser diode chip used as an optical gain medium, is collected to a wavelength selection type filter, which is optical waveguide type. A wavelength selected by a grating formed on the optical waveguide is used to manufacture the external cavity type laser. The device can vary the wavelength of the laser beam oscillating from the external cavity type laser device by changing the electrical and thermal properties of the optical waveguide. In the device, the optical waveguide having the semiconductor laser diode chip and the grating is arranged on a TO-can type package. The optical wavelength of the semiconductor laser is determined by the grating of the optical waveguide. The light exiting surface is arranged in the same direction as the light entering surface in the optical waveguide. |
