The method may further include transferring context information at the storage device to a host memory at the computing system, in response to the first command, and saving the context information at the host memory, wherein the storage device is at reduced power state.

A method comprising: identifying a request for power mode change at a storage device at a computing system, wherein the request for power mode change indicates potential reduced power state of the storage device; detecting a first command representing a dump command; directly transferring context associated with the storage device to a host memory, in response to the first command, wherein the context is part of binary large data (“blob”) that is generated at the host memory in response to the first command and to accept the context, wherein the blob further hosts at least one of contents of the host memory, random numbers to sign cryptographic communications, encrypted data, and signature for authentication, wherein first command triggers the direct transferring of the context to the host memory without having to hold the context in a standby mode in response to one or more intermediate commands; and saving the context at the host memory, wherein the storage device is at reduced power state, wherein the blob having the context is encrypted at the host memory, wherein the context is encrypted as an anti-replay context to protect against accidental use or alteration if one or more reload attempts are made by the storage device prior to issuance of a second command including a restore command.
