A method, system, and computer program product is provided for transmitting output symbols in sub-slots that each have a pre-determined length. A UE generates a first output symbol having a first symbol length, and transmits the first output symbol with a guard period having a guard period length. During the guard period, no transmission is made by the UE. The sum of the first symbol length and the guard period length is less than or equal to the predetermined length. Further, the UE generates a plurality of other output symbols that each have the predetermined length. Then, immediately following the transmission of the first output symbol, the UE transmits the plurality of other output symbols.

A method of transmitting N output symbols in a subframe consisting of a first slot and a second slot, each said slot having N/2 equal length sub-slots, such that each said sub-slot has a sub-slot length that is equal to the sub-slot length of each other said sub-slot, wherein N is greater than four, the method comprising:
generating, by a user equipment (UE), said N output symbols, said N output symbols comprising: i) a first output symbol having a first symbol length, ii) a second output symbol having a second symbol length that is greater than the first symbol length, iii) a third output symbol having symbol length equal to the second symbol length, and iv) a fourth output symbol having symbol length equal to the second symbol length; and during each sub-slot of the subframe, transmitting, by the UE, one and only one of said N output symbols, wherein the first output symbol is transmitted in one of said sub-slots with a guard period having a guard period length, wherein a sum of the first symbol length and the guard period length is equal to the second symbol length and less than or equal to the sub-slot length.
