A method for recognizing a parking space, which is conducted by a parking assist device for assisting a vehicle to be parked in a parking space by recognizing the parking space between a first vehicle and a second vehicle with multiple vehicles parked vertically, according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: receiving first sensor information from the sensor of the vehicle and storing the first sensor information when the vehicle rotates from the side surface of the first vehicle, traverses the parking space and moves forward toward the second vehicle; receiving second sensor information from the sensor of the vehicle when the vehicle moves backward toward the first vehicle from a position near to the second vehicle; and recognizing the parking space using the first sensor information and the second sensor information. Therefore, the present invention overcomes the limitation of supersonic space recognition and provides convenience to a driver by recognizing a parking space using the sensor information received from the sensor of the vehicle when the vehicle rotates from the side surface of the first vehicle, traverses the parking space and moves forward toward the second vehicle, and the sensor information received from the sensor of the vehicle when the vehicle moves backward toward the first vehicle from a position near to the second vehicle. |
