PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire retardant composition which can impart bleeding resistance and excellent fire retardancy.SOLUTION: A fire retardant composition for synthetic resins comprises 20-50 pts.mass of a (poly)phosphate compound (A) and 50-80 pts.mass of a general (poly)phosphate compound (B), with the total of ingredients (A) and (B) of 100 pts.mass, and 0.1-15 pts.mass of a layered silicate introduced with an organic quaternary ammonium cation. The fire retardant composition preferably contains 0.01-10 pts.mass of zinc oxide (D).
