PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive unit of a rotary electric machine capable of preventing burning of a switching element of a short-circuited inverter in a case where the switching element of the inverter is short-circuited.SOLUTION: After turning-on of a protection circuit switch 23, abs(Iau-Iav) that is an absolute value of a difference between an average phase current Iau of a U-phase and an average phase current Iav of a V-phase and abs(Iav-Iaw) that is an absolute value of a difference between the average phase current Iav of the V-phase and an average phase current Iaw of a W-phase, are calculated (a step S5). In a case where at least one of abs(Iau-Iav)>Ir and abs(Iav-Iaw)>Ir is established with respect to a phase current difference threshold Ir (a step S6), a rectangular wave signal generation part 35, upon receiving an inverter short circuit NG signal, transmits the inverter short circuit NG signal to a vehicle ECU 7, and sets an output current to a dead time generation part 38 to Low. Thereby, the protection circuit switch 23 is turned off (a step S8). |
