PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication system that can acquire data necessary for functions of a portable terminal from an apparatus only by touching the apparatus with the portable terminal without unnecessarily recovering the apparatus from a power-saving state.SOLUTION: A portable terminal 10 receives data from a storage area in an NFC tag mounted in an image forming apparatus 20, and when the data is not data necessary for an application operating on the portable terminal 10, transmits a request to switch a communication mode of NFC to the image forming apparatus 20. The image forming apparatus 20 then switches the communication method of NFC and transmits data stored in a storage area 502 of an RAM 202 to the portable terminal 10.
