PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium feeding unit capable of stabilizing tension applied to a medium between a roll body and a feeding roller at the time of start of feeding thereof.SOLUTION: A medium feeding unit comprises: a feeding roller unwinding and feeding a medium from a roll body; a feeding drive section performing feeding drive operation rotating the feeding roller; a feeding power transmission section transmitting driving force of the feeding drive section to the feeding roller; a hold section having a roll input gear 32b and holding the roll body; a roll drive section starting rotation drive operation rotating the hold section for feeding the medium simultaneous with a start of the feeding drive operation by the feeding drive section or prior thereto; and a roll power transmission section having a roll output gear 32a engaging with the roll input gear 32b and transmitting driving force of the roll drive section to the hold section. The roll drive section performs backlash eliminating operation rotating the roll output gear 32a so as to eliminate backlash BL of the roll output gear 32a with respect to the roll input gear 32b prior to the rotation drive operation. |
