BACKLIGHT DEVICE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE WITH THE SAME, AND METHOD OF DRIVING BACKLIGHT DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device for liquid crystal display device that can suppress color breaking due to persistence characteristics of a phosphor and also actualize a wide color reproduction range.SOLUTION: An LED module as a light source of a backlight device comprises: a magenta color light emission body which has a blue LED element covered with a red phosphor, a green light emission body composed of a green LED element; and a blue light emission body composed of a blue LED element. A backlight drive device controls the level of a lighting current when placing the LED module in an OFF state so that luminance of blue light L(B2) emitted from a blue LED element in the blue light emission body and luminance of green light L(G) emitted from a green LED gradually decrease according to characteristics of a red phosphor (persistence characteristics of the red phosphor).
