PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the blowout of discharge spark generated between electrodes of an ignition plug in a spark ignition internal combustion engine including the ignition plug provided generally in a central portion of the upper wall surface of a combustion chamber and generating a tumble flow in the combustion chamber.SOLUTION: If an operating state of an internal combustion engine 10 is in a predetermined blowout range, partial lift is performed for reducing a lift amount of a needle 30 from a lift amount of full lift (left in FIG. 3(ii)). Since the partial lift can intensify a central portion of an intake air flow (left in FIG. 3(iii)), a tumble flow (ω tumble flow) different in shape from a normal tumble flow can be generated (left in FIG. 3(iv)). As a result, in an ignition period by an ignition plug 18, a gas flow velocity near the ignition plug 18 can fall within an ignitable flow velocity range (left in FIG. 3(v)). |
