Balancing-apparatus for adjustable suspension.-A balancing device for rising and falling bodies such as window sashes comprises spring controlled drums and means for regulating the force exerted thereby to maintain a constant balancing force on the sash. The sash 7 as shown in Fig. 2 is balanced by a cord 11 passing over a fixed stud &c. 12 and connected at its ends to a differential spindle 10 supported by bearings secured to the bottom of the sash. The spindle is controlled by spring drums 14 and cords 13 wound on tapered rollers 16 fixed to the spindle, the taper being so chosen that a, constant lifting force is exerted. In a modification, the cords 11 may be wound on tapered drums fixed to the spindle 10 which is controlled by spring drums thereon connected by cords to fixed points. To give increased control the tapered members 16 may be made of elliptical or other eccentric cross-section so that a, varying movement is exerted thereon by the springs. Ratchet devices may be provided for adjusting the spring tension. |
