A drying tower (2) is provided with a tower-shaped drying container (10) into which objects to be dried are loaded from the top and in which the objects to be dried are discharged from the bottom, and an obstacle (60) for impeding the downward movement of the objects to be dried, the obstacle being provided inside the drying container (10) so as to reduce the flow channel area of the objects to be dried. The interior of the drying container (10) is virtually divided into an upper drying chamber (10a) and a lower drying chamber (10b) with the obstacle (60) as a border, the upper drying chamber (10a) and the lower drying chamber (10b) each being provided with a drying gas nozzle (16) for guiding in drying gas, and an exhaust port (17) for discharging the drying gas after the gas has been in contact with the objects to be dried. The exhaust port (17) of the lower drying chamber (10b) opens into a space (V) formed below the obstacle, where no objects to be dried are present.
