PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine variable valve gear capable of fixing a switch pin to an axial direction of a camshaft and stably moving a cam carrier to the axial direction of the camshaft.SOLUTION: A cam switching unit 5 includes a piston 53 that is contained in a housing 52 and that holds a proximal portion 51a of a switch pin 51 so that the switch pin 51 is movable in an axial direction of a camshaft 3, and the housing 52 includes locking holes 52E and 52F locked to a tapered portion 51c of the switch pin 51 and restricting a moving range of the switch pin 51 in the axial direction of the camshaft 3. A variable valve gear 2 of the embodiment is configured, in particular, so that the cam switching unit 5 includes hydraulic chambers 54 and 55 disposed in the axial direction of the camshaft 3 to hold the piston 53 between the hydraulic chambers 54 and 55 in the housing 52, and that the switch pin 51 protrudes from an insertion hole 53A of the piston 53 at a leading end position A of the piston 53 on one side in the axial direction of the camshaft 3 and a terminal end position B of the piston 53 on the other side in the axial direction of the camshaft 3 to be locked to the locking holes 52E and 52F provided at different positions, respectively. |
