PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parking assist system and a parking assist method capable of easily grasping a steering amount at a time of parking an own vehicle while turning and backing the own vehicle.SOLUTION: A synthetic image is generated by synthesizing a vertical bird's-eye image including a diagram indicating an own vehicle MV and a rear bird's-eye image showing a rear road surface in rear of the own vehicle MV in a vehicle front-rear direction from obliquely above with an overhead image showing a surrounding road surface surrounding the own vehicle MV from directly above, with a line extending at a preset position of the own vehicle MV assuming as a demarcation; and a superimposed image obtained by superimposing a backing start position diagram D1 containing a pair of lines standing upright on the rear road surface and holding a travel locus of the backing start position therebetween and a parallel position diagram D3 containing a pair of lines standing upright on the rear road surface and holding a travel locus of a parallel position therebetween on the synthetic image is displayed so as to be visually recognized by a driver of the own vehicle MV at a time of currently parking the own vehicle MV in an already set parking area PA.
