Provided is a polyester film: having a thickness of 10 to 150 μm; having retardation Re in the in-plane direction and retardation Rth in the thickness direction of 3,000 to 30,000 nm; having an Re/Rth ratio of over 0.8 to 2.5 (inclusive); having a heat shrinkage rate of 0.6% or less in the direction orthogonal to the orientation direction; and rises 1.8 mm or less when the outermost layer of the polyester film, which is wound into a roll shape, is unrolled, cut into a 500 mm square, and placed on a flat surface. The polyester film is free of scratches, does not crack or break when being conveyed, and is able to minimize the occurrence of rainbow-like color unevenness when incorporated in a liquid crystal display device. Further provided are a method for producing the polyester film, a polarizing plate, an image display device, a hard coat film, and a touch panel. |
