The present invention addresses the problem of further reducing operating force. An operation assist device (100) is provided with: an operation section (7); a soft-close mechanism (8); a first magnet device (1); a second magnet device (2); and a mechanism section (6). The mechanism section (6) changes the relative positional relationship of the first magnet device (1) and the second magnet device (2) in accordance with operation of the operation section (7). Repulsive force is generated between the first magnet device (1) and the second magnet device (2) when a second structure (5) is in a closed position and the operation section (7) is operated so that the second structure (5) moves in a direction that causes said second structure (5) to open. Attractive force is generated between the first magnet device (1) and the second magnet device (2) when the second structure (5) is in an open state and the operation section (7) is operated so that the second structure (5) moves in a direction that causes said second structure (5) to close.
