The present invention relates to an insulation resistance detecting device of an eco-friendly vehicle and a method thereof to measure insulation resistance of a power distribution unit (PDU) in real time and to plan safety operation by informing a driver of dielectric breakdown. Formed is the insulation resistance detecting device of the eco-friendly vehicle which comprises: a battery pack to supply high voltage; the PDU to divide the high voltage provided from the battery pack and supply the high voltage to high and low voltage units and to deliver an insulation resistance detection value to a vehicle control unit by measuring own insulation resistance in real time; and a vehicle control unit to compare the insulation resistance detection value delivered from the PDU with an insulation reference resistance value which is set as a reference in advance for determining the dielectric breakdown, and to display the dielectric breakdown of the PDU through a cluster if the insulation resistance detection value is lower than the insulation reference resistance value.
