PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide immobilized non-fouling coatings, particularly, coatings that resist the adhesion of biological material and are attached to a substrate surface through a graft-from method.SOLUTION: A composition comprises a substrate, and optionally comprises an undercoating layer immobilized on the substrate. In the composition, a non-fouling polymeric material is covalently bound to the substrate or the undercoating layer. The polymeric material is grafted from within the substrate or the undercoating layer. The composition is in the form of a medical device, e.g., a vascularly inserted catheter selected from among a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC), a central venous catheter (CVC), and a hemodialysis catheter. |
