PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of estimating the specific volume of a coal blend with high accuracy.SOLUTION: In a method of estimating the specific volume of a coal blend, for a coal blend composed of a low-coalification-degree coal having a solidification temperature of coal of lower than 470°C and a high coalification-degree coal having a solidification temperature of 470°C or higher, with the solidification temperatures measured by the fluidity testing by JIS M8801, blended together, the specific volume of a coal blend at the maximum expansion is estimated with high accuracy by calculating an inert index &phgr; from the specific volume of the coal blend at a temperature at which the low-coalification-degree coal solidifies again and calculating an inert coefficient Φ from the value of the inert index &phgr;.
