A method for grouping chat messages on a device comprises the steps of: displaying, on a screen, a plurality of chat messages from a plurality of users; categorizing at least one chat message from the plurality of chat messages into a chat message group; generating an identifier corresponding to the chat message group; hiding the at least one chat message from the screen and displaying the identifier; and performing an operation related to the at least one chat message which has been hidden, when the identifier is selected.
