The invention relates to a method for removing metal contaminants from hydrocarbon fractions, such as are, for example, obtained as a product of the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis using a suspended catalyst. The hydrocarbon fraction to be treated is mixed in a molten state with a defined minimum amount of diatomaceous earth at a defined minimum temperature. The metals to be removed are bound to the diatomaceous earth and are removed together therewith by filtration.
