PURIFICATION METHOD OF RADIOACTIVE CONTAMINATED SOIL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a purification method of radioactive contaminated soil that is low-cost and capable of effectively purifying a large amount of radioactive contaminated soil.SOLUTION: A purification method of radioactive contaminated soil is provided that treats radioactive contaminated soil in two steps composed of: a first step of adding a soil modifier for raising a melt temperature of soil to radioactive contaminated soil containing radioactive cesium and mixing them; and a second step of heating the mixture to 1100°C or greater and separating the radioactive cesium from the soil by evaporation. Additionally, the radioactive contaminated soil is treated in two steps composed of: a first step of adding a reductant or a reductant with a soil modifier to radioactive contaminated soil containing radioactive cesium and performing a reduction treatment on iron oxide in soil in a temperature range of 600°C or greater and less than 1100°C and in an atmosphere having an oxygen partial pressure of 0.1 atm or less to raise the melt temperature of the soil; and a second step of separating the radioactive cesium from the soil by evaporation in a temperature range of 1100°C or greater.
