This surface light emitting body (100) is provided with: a surface light emitting part (10) that is configured of an organic EL element having light transmissivity; a light scattering variable part (20); a light reflecting variable part (30); a light absorbing variable part (40); and a plurality of power supply terminals (8). The plurality of power supply terminals (8) are connected to at least one electrode (5) among a plurality of electrodes (5). The power supply terminals (8) supply an electric power that is controlled in a plurality of steps in terms of the electric current and/or the electric voltage. This surface light emitting body (100) has a first surface (F1), which is configured so that the light from the surface light emitting part (10) is extracted therefrom, and a second surface (F2) which is on the reverse side of the first surface (F1). The light reflecting variable part (30) is arranged closer to the second surface (F2) than the surface light emitting part (10) and the light scattering variable part (20).
