PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte fuel battery arranged so that a sufficient reactive gas can be supplied to a catalyst layer while suppressing the leak of the reactive gas into a gap which may be formed between an outer edge of a gas diffusion layer and a gas-seal member.SOLUTION: A polymer electrolyte fuel battery comprises: a polymer electrolyte membrane 11; a catalyst layer 12A; a frame 16; a gas diffusion layer 13A; a gas-seal member 17A provided on a principal surface of the frame 16 so as to be located outwardly from the outer edge of the gas diffusion layer 13A, and inwardly from the outer edge of the frame 16; and a separator 18A. The gas diffusion layer 13A has: a first region 31A; and second region 32A located outwardly from the first region 31A and provided to overlap with the inner edge of the frame 16. The gas diffusion layer 13A is arranged so that the degree of air infiltration resistance of the second region 32A becomes smaller than that of the first region 31A.
