This solar cell element (10) is provided with: a semiconductor substrate (1) that has a p-type semiconductor region in one main surface; a passivation layer (9) that contains aluminum oxide and is arranged on the p-type semiconductor region; and a protective layer (11) that contains silicon oxide containing hydrogen and carbon and is arranged on the passivation layer (9).
