Aspects of branch prediction are suppressed for branch instructions executing in a transaction of a transactional memory (TM) environment in transactions that are re-executions of previously aborted transactions.

1. A computer system for suppressing branch prediction updates for branch instructions executing in a transaction of a transactional memory (TM) environment, the computer system comprising:
a memory; and a processor in communications with the memory, the processor comprising branch prediction facilities, wherein the computer system is configured to perform a method, said method comprising:
starting execution of a transaction in a transaction execution mode;determining whether the transaction was previously aborted; andbased on the transaction being previously aborted, suppressing branch prediction updates to the branch prediction facilities; andbased on the transaction not being previously aborted, performing branch prediction updates to the branch prediction facilities.
