PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve visibility of a character and an image in a background area of an object image while reducing the light emission luminance of a back light in the background area.SOLUTION: An image display system 1 that displays a display image containing an object image includes: a background area detection part 1104 for detecting, in a display image, a background image area not containing an object image; an association image generation part 1102 for detecting an association image area containing an association image displayed in association with the display image; a display part 122 for displaying the display image; a light emission part 123 capable of changing the light emission luminance corresponding to each of a plurality of division areas in the display part 122; an LD control part 125 for controlling the light emission luminance in the plurality of division areas on the basis of the background image area; and a luminance correction control part 126 for correcting the luminance value of the association image contained in the background image area on the basis of the background image area and the association image area. |
