PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire drawing machine and a wire drawing method, making it possible to make a high-strength metal wire with satisfactory producibility.SOLUTION: A wire drawing machine includes: a first wire drawing die that draws a passing metal wire by reducing a diameter of the metal wire; a first back tension control part to control a first back tension of the metal wire passing through the first wire drawing die; and a winding part to wind the drawn metal wire. The first back tension control part controls the first back tension so that the first back tension is 7% or less of tensile strength of the metal wire passing through the first wire drawing die.
