PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of suppressing increase in the number of components for detection of an original left behind on an original platen.SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus comprises: a reader for reading a medium; a controller for generating a first image on the basis of the result of first reading which reads the medium and generating a second image on the basis of the result of second reading executed with timing different from the first reading; and a first determination unit 102 which determines the presence or absence of the medium on the basis of the result of comparing the common areas between the first image and the second image. |
