307,931. British Tabulating Machine Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Deutsche Hollerith Maschinen Ges.). March 16, 1928, [Convention date]. Selective punching machines. - In a machine for punching statistical record cards, each of the numeral keys of a punching machine or typewriter is caused to energize alternative solenoids according to the setting of a switch. As applied to a machine described in Specification 238,553, actuation of numeral keys 11 energizes solenoids 16 coupled to slide selector bars to punch a Hollerith card, The " 0 " solenoid is wired to the " 9 " solenoid and the " 1 " solenoid to the " 8 '' solenoid &c. through a multiple switch 31. With the switch in the left-hand position, Fig. 4. depression of the " 3 " key energizes the " 3 " solenoid, while with the switch in the right-hand position depression of the " 3 " key energizes the " 6 " solenoid. The switch 31 is moved to the left by depression of a " Debit " key (not shown), and the right by depression of a " Credit " key. Instead of controlling the solenoids from the keyboard of the punching machine, wires 82 may be connected to the keyboard of a typewriter.
